Report
Once a year, the European Commission and the European Central Bank organise a joint conference on financial integration in Europe. The 2017 conference was held in Brussels on 19 May and focused on the latest developments of the financial sector, as well as Banking Union and the Capital Markets Union as catalysts for further financial integration in Europe.
At this occasion, the European Commission presented its annual “European Financial Stability and Integration Review” and the ECB its annual report on “Financial Integration in Europe”.
At the conference, Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis and ECB Vice-President Vítor Constâncio gave keynote speeches. Moreover, in two high-level panels, key policymakers, financial market leaders and academics discussed the achievements and further steps for the Banking Union as well as the long-term vision for the Capital Markets Union and its contribution to financial integration. The role of other sources of funding was also discussed.
