The European Commission and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development/International Network on Financial Education (OECD/INFE) held a hybrid event in Brussels dedicated to the publication of the joint EU-OECD/INFE financial competence framework for children and youth.
This framework follows on the publication of the EU/OECD-INFE financial competence framework for adults in January 2022.
The objective of the framework is to establish a shared understanding of the essential financial literacy skills for children and teenagers at different stages of their lives to enable them take well-informed personal finance decisions immediately and later in life. The framework can support the development of financial literacy policies, programmes and teaching material by public, private and not-for-profit stakeholders.
The event served as a platform for young people, policy makers, educators and academics to exchange views on the relevance of the framework and of financial literacy more broadly. It explored ways in which the framework could be used at national level.
Keynote speakers included: Mairead McGuinness, Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union, and Yoshiki Takeuchi, OECD Deputy Secretary-General.
