Background information
Decentralised finance (DeFi) is a newly emerging form of autonomous financial intermediation in a decentralised digital environment powered by software.
DeFi is developing rapidly, albeit from a low base. It comes with opportunities and risks and presents challenges to financial regulation that tends to be focused on regulating and supervising financial intermediaries.
This webinar featured Tarik Roukny, Assistant Professor of Finance at the Faculty of Economics and Business (KU Leuven), who presented his research on how DeFi addresses long-standing information frictions in financial markets and the impact this could have on public policy.
